  1. Lecture: "Shaping Democracy: How Blacks Transformed the American Narrative

    Pottsgrove Manor welcomes Prof. tonya thames taylor of West Chester University for her lecture, “Shaping Democracy: How Blacks Transformed the American Narrative.” When John Potts died in 1768, a probate inventory named the 13 enslaved people who lived at Pottsgrove Manor. The lives of these ten men and three women are not always included in the historical record, making their stories difficult to piece together. Learn more about the lives of enslaved people in Pennsylvania from tonya thames taylor, PhD., during her lecture that focuses on how history was shaped by Black Americans. Mississippi native and granddaughter of former sharecroppers, dr. tonya thames-taylor is an Associate Professor of History (American), founding director of the African American Studies Program, and member of the Executive Committee of the Frederick Douglass Institute at West Chester University.

    THE MONTGOMERY COUNTY OFFICE OF HOUSING AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT is initiating planning for the 2020 Annual Action Plan as part of its application for funding to the U.S. Department of HUD. This is an opportunity for individuals and organizations to provide feedback to the County on the needs of low and moderate-income residents, to learn about the programs and to be involved in determining how the County will use the approximately $4.5 million in allocations, from HUD to improve our community. The County encourages participation of all its residents, especially the involvement of very low-income residents, minorities and non-English speaking persons and persons with mobility, visual or hearing impairments. Meeting places are handicap accessible.
