Discover how natural philosophy shaped 18th century life through experiments, demonstrations, and hands-on activities for the whole family. Living History interpreters will highlight how scientific thought impacted medicine in the Apothecary and botany in the garden. Converse in the coffeehouse about the new ideas of the day and sample some 18th century drinks. Take part in some of Dr. Benjamin Franklin’s famous experiments and learn about how he revolutionized science in Philadelphia. Help fill a paper balloon with hot air and watch it rise above the ground. Test your knowledge about colonial education with a tutoring lesson in the Hands-On Room. Plus, find out how some ideas were not entirely correct with a test of spontaneous generation. Scientific knowledge was viewed as fundamental to a proper education; learn about the many ways that science opens up the past at Pottsgrove Manor!

Alice will tell you about her life, her relationship with Lewis Carroll and debunk some of the myths and rumors that swirl around the author and the creation of his masterpiece story. Enjoy a three-course tea on the mansion porch served by servants in period attire.

Join us for an evening of music in the park. Come out to Green Lane Park’s free summer concert featuring The Red Hill Band. They have entertained crowds of all ages throughout the Montgomery County area since the early 1900’s. Their artistic mission is to continue the tradition of band concerts in parks and at civic and social events, playing marches, show tunes and other traditional concert band music.

Bats are amazing creatures and they have been known to hibernate near Lower Perkiomen Valley Park. Come learn about the life history of our local bat species, the threats they are facing, and what you can do at home to help the cause. We will visit the bat house that was installed in the park this year. If we're lucky, we may see some bats swooping over the fields as they hunt for insects. Pre-registration is preferred; participants should meet at Pavilion 2; event will be held weather permitting.
All ages; children must be accompanied by an adult.

Join us for a closer look at our 6-legged neighbors, the insects. We will use nets and magnifier boxes to collect our finds in an “insect zoo”.
