The public is invited to an open house on April 25, 2022. Stop by anytime between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the Whitemarsh Township Administration Building to learn about the timing of Section D of the Ridge Pike Improvement Project, meet the construction team, and ask questions. Section D, which extends from Crescent Avenue to Philadelphia and traverses through Whitemarsh and Springfield Townships, is entering the construction phase.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The Ridge Pike Improvement Project, which is divided into four sections, involves major reconstruction of Ridge Pike between Norristown and Philadelphia. Owned by Montgomery County, this road accommodates over 30,000 vehicles daily. The original roadway alignment dates to colonial days as do some of the features along the road. The modern roadway dates from the 1930s and was widened in the 1970s. Much of Ridge Pike (between Crescent and Northwestern Avenues) needs extensive repair to improve safety and mobility for both drivers and pedestrians.

SECTION D IMPROVEMENTS

Section D involves a full-depth roadway reconstruction that improves safety and reduces congestion. Improvements include adding traffic signals at Crescent and Barren Hill Roads, adding an eastbound through lane between Harts Lane and Northwestern Avenue, and adding much-needed storm water management facilities. Pedestrian safety and transit accessibility will be improved by providing a continuous sidewalk along the southwestern side of the road and consolidating SEPTA bus stops, which will be made ADA compliant. This work is funded 100 percent by the Montgomery County government.
