Recorder of Deeds Jeanne Sorg Streamlines Electronic Document Access

NORRISTOWN--Recorder of Deeds Jeanne Sorg today announced the consolidation of all recorded documents into one centralized database in her office.

“Researching the history of your property is now easier in Montgomery County. All documents recorded by the Recorder of Deeds office since 1784 are now available to the public in one electronic database,” Sorg said. “These documents were previously housed in two separate databases. Today, the public only has to search one database, the Public Access System, to find any document recorded by the office.”

Sorg attributes this change to wanting to create a more streamlined experience for users.

“It was a cumbersome process for users to switch from one database to another in the middle of the search,” Sorg said. “That is no longer a concern.”

The Public Access System is the only electronic database through which users obtain a document online. Present-day documents are available for view or purchase 5-7 days from the date of recording. Users can search the system in Sorg’s office free of charge, and print documents for a nominal fee. Users can also search remotely and purchase documents for a fee. There is an additional option for users to purchase convenient monthly and calendar day subscriptions to meet their research needs.

Documents recorded in the Recorder of Deeds office are not only integral to researching property history, but also are invaluable in tracking the development of the county. Documents are also useful in researching family history.

Users can access the database remotely by visiting the Recorder of Deeds website at www.montcopa.org/rod and creating an account.  For more information, please contact the Montgomery County Recorder of Deeds office at 610-272-3289.

Jeanne Sorg assumed the office of Montgomery County Recorder of Deeds in 2016. She serves as a member of the Property Records Industry Association, the Montgomery Bar Association Realtor Liaison Committee, and the Legislative and Conference committees of the Pennsylvania Recorder of Deeds Association (PRODA).
