Blue Bell, PA (May 12, 2017) – Montgomery County Commissioners attended the closing luncheon today of the 32nd annual Montgomery County Senior Games. This year, more than 500 adults participated in the games.
“We encourage our seniors to stay active and healthy, and the Montgomery County Senior Games help make it easy and fun for them to do so,” said Dr. Val Arkoosh, Chair, Montgomery County Commissioners. “It gives our older residents a week to compete, encourage each other to keep moving, and to try new activities or reacquaint themselves with an old pastime. But most importantly, it is a week to get out and just have fun.”
The Montgomery County Senior Games combine sports and recreation with fellowship among its participants and volunteers. Events include bowling, swimming, running, bocce, tennis, golf, horseshoes, pickle ball, and various other sports and games. The games take place at a number of locations throughout the county and concluded today with a Senior Expo at the Montgomery County Community College, and a luncheon at Normandy Farms in Blue Bell.
Any Montgomery County resident aged 50 or older by December 31, 2017 was eligible to participate. Registration was also open to those who are not residents of Montgomery County. There are seven age categories and each age category has the opportunity to medal for first, second, and third place.
The Montgomery County Senior Games are sponsored in part by the office of Aging and Adult Services, part of the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services. Aging and Adult Services assists all Montgomery County seniors with safety and health matters and assistance to age successfully in their communities with the supports they need.
