The Borough of Collegeville formally adopted the Collegeville Borough Municipal Sustainability Plan on December 3. This is only the second municipal sustainability plan to be adopted in the county and one of the few in all of Pennsylvania. The Collegeville plan sets sustainability goals for the borough government, creates action items they will strive to achieve to help accomplish those goals, and presents the baseline information to help inform the process. The plan was created by a stakeholder committee that included borough staff, elected officials, members of the Ursinus College staff, and the Collegeville Economic Development Corporation (CEDC).

MCPC guided the planning process and created the final product—an attractive 58-page plan that includes graphs, illustrations, and photos. The plan highlights the partnership between the borough and Ursinus College and the CEDC. This partnership will help Collegeville achieve the sustainability goals in the plan. Both the college and the CEDC are enthusiastic about the plan and look forward to working toward a more sustainable Collegeville.

MCPC developed the county’s first sustainability plan for Cheltenham Township. That plan is being successfully implemented. Our staff has just started work on a sustainability plan for the Borough of Pottstown. Sustainability plans are part of the professional planning services offered by MCPC through the Montgomery County Community Planning Assistance Program.
