Highlights from the American Planning Association Conference (Pennsylvania Chapter)

Posted on November 1, 2013 at 12:14 PM by Anne Leavitt-Gruberger

Last week, planners from around the state gathered in Harrisburg for the annual Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Planning Association conference.  A number of planners from the Montgomery County Planning Commission (MCPC) attended and participated.  Highlights included:

  • The ex-mayors of Pittsburgh, PA and Chattanooga, TN presented keynote addresses showing how older cities and towns can reinvent themselves and become vibrant places once again. Both were very inspirational.
  • A number of planners from MCPC presented or participated in panels.  Jon Lesher presented on how to implement energy improvements at your organization.  John Cover and Sean Metrick gave overviews of their work in Norristown and Narberth on form-based zoning.  Brian O’Leary participated in a panel on unconventional shale gas development.  If you’re interested in any of these subjects, feel free to contact these planners to learn more.
  • Students from the planning program at Temple Ambler won the student award for their plan, Aging with Our Communities: An Aging-in-Place Plan for Montgomery County, PA, which was done for the county’s Office of Aging and Adult Services.
