Pump Driver - Operator Course & Test Information
  • Pumper Driver - Operator: Written and Practical Challenge Test - May 5, 2012
This is the written and practical challenge test for the Pennsylvania Voluntary Certification Program accredited by the National Board of Fire Service Professional Qualifications (NPQS) and the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC). Successful completion of a certification level permits you to apply to the National Board of Fire Service Professional Qualifications for national certification and registry.

Driver - Operator Written Test
The Fire Apparatus Driver / Operator - Pumper written test is 100 multiple choice questions based on the NFPA 1002 Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications, 2003 Edition. The passing grade for the written test is 70%. The written and skills test are based on information that can be found in the International Fire Service Training Association (IFSTA) Pump Apparatus Driver / Operator, First Edition.

Practical Skills
The practical, hands-on skill testing for Pumper Driver - Operator will have six skill stations that must all be successfully passed.

  • Student equipment / supplies needed: Written test - Bring #2 pencils; practical skills - students will need to bring an engine / pump and F.T.O.G.
