Burial Allowance

The Montgomery County Office of Veterans Affairs processes applications for the county veterans' burial allowances from funeral directors or individuals.

Bronze Flag Holder

The Montgomery County Office of Veterans Affairs assembles and distributes county bronze flag holders to be placed on the graves of eligible Montgomery County veterans. Our office maintains a supply of the bronze flag holders for the following approved wars:
  • Civil War
  • Indian Wars
  • Korean War
  • Mexican War
  • Persian Gulf War
  • Revolutionary War
  • Spanish-American War
  • Vietnam War
  • War of 1812
  • War on Terrorism
  • WWI
  • WWII

Our office also has peacetime veteran markers.


The requirements to receive this free bronze flag holder with a U.S. flag are a copy of the veteran's discharge and a copy of the veteran's death certificate. Bring both copies to our office and upon our review of the above documents and a completed office application, we will issue the applicant a free bronze flag holder with a U.S. flag.

Damaged Flag Holders

If a bronze flag holder is ever destroyed or damaged, please bring to our office the damaged part and we will replace it free of charge.

Licenses for Certain Disabled Veterans

The Montgomery County Treasurer, acting as an agent for the state, sells licenses for hunting and fishing to certain disabled veterans.

Certified Copies of Marriage & Divorce Records for Veterans

Veterans may obtain free certified copies of marriage and divorce records, if they were married or divorced within the county.

Recording & Certification of Discharge Documents

The Montgomery County Recorder of Deeds is responsible to record and certify veterans' discharge documents. Please contact their office at 610-278-3289 for their procedures.
