Winter Explorations Walk

Join us for a leisurely hike on the Blue Trail. We will enjoy the sights and sounds of a winter morning along the shores of the Green Lane Reservoir. Along the way, we will examine animal tracks and whatever Mother Nature has in store for us. Wear sturdy boots, trail may be snow or mud covered.  Pre-registration required; meet at Boat Rental office, 2821 Hill Road, Green Lane.   Ages: 9 & up; free.

Animal Tracks and Signs Walk

Join us for a closer look at our seldom-seen creatures in this outdoor exploration. We will search for tracks and other signs of native animals in a variety of habitats. Wear sturdy boots or shoes, ground may be snow or mud-covered. Meet outside Park Office, 2144 Snyder Road, Green Lane.  Ages: 9 & up, free.

Yoga in the Park: Winter Mindfulness Walk

We’ll gather for some basic guidance in mindfulness & walking.  After warm-up breathing and movement, we step out on our walk, focused and mindfully aware in Green Lane Park’s winter wonderland.  Meet at the Deep Creek Stone Lodge, 2115 Snyder Road.  All ages; fee: $10 when you register in advance at yogarhythmsstudio.com; $15 day of event.

Archaeology for Kids: Part 1 – Learn to Read the Land

Archaeology is an important branch of science to study human history through the excavation and the analysis of artifacts. Reading the landscape helps us determine what the land looked like years ago to find the best places to dig.  Learn to draw a map of the valley before the dam was built.  Meet in the Deep Creek Stone Lodge, 2115 Snyder Road. Preregistration is required.  Ages: 7 to 12 with an adult; free.

The Triple Dam Trail Run – 10K and The Mini Dam – 5K

The Friends of Green Lane Park will partner with the Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy to host the 4th annual 10K trail run event, with a 5K Mini Dam option this year.  Registration can be accessed on The ‘Friends’ Facebook page, the Green Lane Park and the Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy websites. Meet at the Deep Creek Stone Lodge, 2115 Snyder Road.  All ages;  fee for race registration: $35 before the deadline (January 15th, 2020), $40 day of event.

Waterfowl Watch

The calendar may still say “winter”, but spring migration for waterfowl is getting underway. Bundle up, grab your binoculars, and join us! We will visit 3 birding hotspots in Green Lane Park in search of ducks, geese, swans and more.  Meet at the tennis court parking lot, 2298 Green Lane Road.  Group will caravan by car to other venues. Pre-registration required. Ages: 9 & up, free.

Maple Sugar Magic

Join us as we celebrate 32 years of Maple Sugaring in the park. We will demonstrate tree tapping, the boiling down of maple sap at our evaporator, and share stories of “sugaring off ” in the old days. Visitors can compare the taste of pure maple syrup to commercial pancake syrup in a blind taste test. Pure Pennsylvania Maple Syrup, cream, and candy will be available for purchase. Program meets at Hill Road Day Use Area, 2821 Hill Road. All ages; free.

Waterfowl Watch

Join us as we search the shores of the park for late-moving waterfowl. We never know what we’ll find at one of eastern Pennsylvania’s premier bird watching venues. Bring binoculars; meet at the tennis court parking lot 2298 Green Lane Road.  All ages; free.

Timberdoodle Time

Come out to the park just before dark to witness the amazing courtship flight of the American Woodcock. With such fanciful names as “Timberdoodle”, “Labrador Twister” and “Bogsucker”, this bird has fascinated people for centuries. Bring a flashlight and meet at Red Trail parking lot 2005 Knight Road. Wear appropriate footwear, as ground may be muddy. Preregistration required.  Ages: 9 & up; free.

Yoga in the Park: Spring Equinox Celebration

Welcome Spring! Snow, Sleet, Rain or Shine—it’s all part of Spring in Pennsylvania! Our yoga practice will be inspired and appropriate for Mother Nature’s display. Color your Eggs – Naturally

Looking for an alternative to chemical food coloring tablets from the grocery store? Join us to color Easter eggs like our grandparents did—using natural materials! Bring a dozen hardboiled eggs and sample colors from Mother Nature’s palette. Due to high demand, we added a second time slot. Spaces are limited, pre-registration is required! Meet at the Deep Creek Stone Lodge, 2115 Snyder Road.  Ages: 5 to adult; materials fee of $5 per dozen eggs.

Enhance Your Landscape with Small Native Trees (presentation)

Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day with The Friends of Green Lane Park. Pam Herceg, a Penn State Extension Master Gardener, will present a program during which you will learn which small native trees are right for your landscape, how they provide food and shelter for wildlife and how best to care for them. Call the park office to sign up. Maximum capacity is 40 people. Meet at the Deep Creek Stone Lodge, 2115 Snyder Road. Ages: 12 & up; free.

Hemlock Point

Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day with The Friends of Green Lane Park by helping to naturalize an overgrown meadow within the Hemlock Point section of Green Lane Park.  Join “The Friends” in removing invasive species and planting environmentally beneficial native plants within a meadow next to the Green Lane Connector Trail. Meet at the Family and Youth Services Building, 1492 Gravel Pike.  All ages; free

The Upper Perkiomen Valley — A Journey Through the Past

Join special guest historian and speaker Tom Henry for this special program on the history of the valley before Green Lane Reservoir was created. Back by popular demand, Tom’s amazing power point program features images of the homes and farmsteads that once flourished here. Spaces are very limited, pre-registration is required. WMGK DeBella Dog Walk

Classic Rock 102.9 MGK presents the 13th Annual John DeBella Dog Walk. You & your four legged friend get to spend some quality time together in this picturesque park, enjoy doggie demos, interactive games, & get expert advice from vets & trainers. When was the last time you picked up a hula hoop? Hula hooping is a great form of exercise that allows you to move your body and feel like a kid again. Hand-made hoops will be available for purchase at $20 each. Classes will meet at the Green Lane Park Amphitheater, 2298 Green Lane Road. Foraged Beer and Fresh Air! A Hike for Brew Ingredients

Join Perkiomen Valley Brewery to forage in Green Lane Park for beer ingredients! You’ll learn about and collect some of the flora used in brewing at Perkiomen Valley Brewery. Then bring what you collected back to the brewery to begin processing it while enjoying a beer (or other beverage of choice) to thank you for your help. Meeting place TBD as the growing season begins. 10 people maximum. Call the park office to register. Ages: 21 and up; free.

Part 2 – Archaeology for Kids Digging Deeper

Like getting your hands in the dirt? Join us for Part 2 – Archaeology for Kids. Excavation is one of the most important methods archaeologists learn. Learn the methods of excavating, documenting and analyzing your finds. After the digging activity, all will be able to paint and take home their own terracotta pot. Meet in the Stone Lodge, 2115 Deep Creek Road. Preregistration required. Ages: 7 to 12 with an adult; free.

Summer Concert Series: Pure Jerry

Since 2012, Pure Jerry has had one goal: bringing life and spirit to the music of Jerry Garcia. Fronted by veteran jam guitarist Michael Morrow, they are a powerful array of talent that performs a wide range of music from Keystone–era material to early nineties’ JGB shows. With a combined lifetime of Grateful Dead experience and pedigree, Pure Jerry lets the music do the talking. Bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on. All ages; free.

Join us for a day of yoga and kayaking at Deep Creek Lake. We will start off performing basic yoga techniques and follow it up with a kayak journey on Deep Creek Lake. Creek Critters

Join us as we investigate aquatic life in the waters of Perkiomen Creek. Using nets, pans and magnifiers, we’ll examine the many highly adapted insects, crayfish, and more. Wear shorts and old sneakers (no open-toed shoes, please!) as we will be getting wet. Afterward, all creatures will be returned safely to their homes. Pre-registration is required. Program will meet at Fly-fishing area,1023 Church Road, East Greenville.  All ages; free.

Join us for an evening of music in the park! Formed in January 2013, ROUGAROU (pronounced ‘roo-guh-roo’) is a cover band based in Limerick Township, PA that plays a wide variety of tunes from the Classic Rock and Soul genres. ROUGAROU features stinging lead guitar, a bad to the bone rhythm section, and tops it off with Hammond organ and soulful vocals. Bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on.  All ages; free.

Join us for our annual search for the fascinating firefly. We all loved to catch them as kids, but did you know that Fireflies are the official State Insect of Pennsylvania? Bring the kids and grandkids for this special night-time adventure. Bring a non-breakable plastic container or jar (we have some loaners as well), and meet at the tennis court parking lot, 2298 Green Lane Road. All creatures will be released unharmed at end of program.  All ages; free.
