Lightning in a Jar – Fireflies!

Join us for our annual search for the fascinating firefly. We all loved to catch them as kids, but did you know that Fireflies are the official State Insect of Pennsylvania? Bring the kids and grandkids for this special night-time adventure. Bring a non-breakable plastic container or jar (we have some loaners as well), and meet at tennis court parking lot (2298 Green Lane Road, Green Lane, PA 18054). All creatures will be released unharmed at end of program. All ages; free.

Summer Concert Series: Zydeco-a-Go-Go

Join us for an evening of music in the park. Come out to Green Lane Park’s free summer concert series featuring Zydeco-a-Go-Go! Their music is a mix of Louisiana Cajun, Zydeco and vintage New Orleans Rock & Roll. Their upbeat, happy sound appeals to all ages, toddlers through teens, mom and dad and grandparents, everybody. They’ve got that lively rhythm that makes you smile, makes you tap your feet, some people can’t help it, got to get up and dance! Their motto is: “Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler!” or “Let The Good Times Roll!” Please bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on. All ages; free.

Join us for an investigation into what swims and crawls in the waters of the Perkiomen Creek. We will use nets, pans and magnifying lenses to better understand the animals and their adaptations to life in moving water. Wear water shoes or old sneakers, we will be getting wet! (no open-toed shoes or sandals, please). Program will meet at Fly-fishing area on Church Road. (1.2 miles east of Kutztown Road). Pre-registration required. Ages 5 to adult; free.

Join us for an evening of theater in the park with the Commonwealth Classic Theatre Company’s rendition of Shakespeare’s Measure by Measure.
In Shakespeare's bawdy and witty, dark comedy, questions of mercy, justice, corruption of power, and religious hypocrisy are explored in a thrilling story line seemingly made for today. What are the human consequences of power in the wrong hands? How can the scales of justice and mercy be leveled fairly and humanely? Join us in exploring the questions that lay at the passionate heart of William Shakespeare's timeless and timely work, Measure for Measure. Please bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on. They have entertained crowds of all ages throughout the Montgomery County area since the early 1900’s. Their artistic mission is to continue the tradition of band concerts in parks and at civic and social events, playing marches, show tunes and other traditional concert band music. Deja Groove has become one of Philadelphia's favorite wedding bands, delivering high-energy renditions of today's music, along with your favorite Top 40, Motown & Old-School hits. The park’s meadows are alive with blooming wildflowers and a host of insect visitors. This program allows participants a chance to hone their macro-photography skills on living subjects. Photographers of all skill levels welcome! Our target species will be bees and butterflies, but you may be surprised at all the amazing creatures that rely on native plants. Don’t know a beech from a birch? Join us for a close up look at our native trees and shrubs. We will use leaves, bark, fruit and other clues to learn how to identify woody plants with confidence. We will also learn some fun facts about the uses of these plants in past and modern times. Program will meet outside Park Office (2144 Snyder Road, Green Lane PA 18054). Pre-registration required. Join members of the Bucks Mont Astronomical Association for an evening under the stars. Using telescopes and other optics, they will share their vast knowledge of the night sky with participants. NOTE- in the event of rain or extensive cloud cover, the program will be rescheduled for Thursday October 24th at 6:30 pm. Program will meet in Red Trail parking lot (2005 Knight Road, Green Lane, PA 18054).

Cheryl Heimbach of Baywing Falconry returns with her amazing birds of prey program. Join her as she unravels the life history and ecology of hawks, falcons and owls. Learn about the special adaptations of these highly adapted aerial hunters. At least one of the birds will be flying. Meet near park amphitheater. Join us for a closer look at fall migrant songbirds, raptors and others in the Green Lane Park IBA and neighboring property. We will visit THE local hotspot for migrant songbirds, especially the sparrows. Wear waterproof boots, as the morning dew is heavy in the fall. Pre-registration required. Bring binoculars and meet at fly-fishing area on Church Road. (1023 Church Road, East Greenville, PA 18041). Ages 9 and up; free.

Holiday Craft WorkshopsGreen Lane Park • 215 234-4528
Join us for one workshop or both if you like. At 10:00 a.m., we will be focusing on “Holiday Centerpieces”. We will use cones, nuts and pods from nature to make this craft to adorn your table. At 1:00 p.m. our workshop will be “Winsome Woodland Creatures” all made from natural materials. NOTE- we have other craft projects available, and skilled instructors happy to help you get creative. No previous crafting experience needed! Bring a hot glue gun or borrow one of ours. Spaces are limited, pre-registration required. Program will meet at Stone Pavilion (2115 Snyder Road, Green Lane, PA 18054). Ages 12 and up. Materials fee of $8 per person, per workshop.

Join us for a look at waterfowl migration in one of Pennsylvania’s premier birding locations. Ducks, geese, swans and other birds are winging their way south at this time, and Green Lane Park is a favorite stop-over along the way. Our holiday craft programs conclude for the season as we create “Kissing Balls” from local nuts, pods and cones. While this will be our primary focus, participants can choose from other craft projects including centerpieces, pine cone wreaths, and several other choices. No previous experience needed, let our crafty volunteers walk you through any of the projects! Bring a hot glue gun or borrow one of ours. Spaces are limited, pre-registration required. Program will meet at Stone Pavilion (2115 Snyder Road, Green Lane, PA 18054).
Ages 12 and up. Materials fee of $8 per person.
