Norristown, PA (April 27, 2017) – PennDOT officials today inspected the Fetters Mill Road Bridge and ordered it closed immediately due to concerns for the safety of its users. The bridge, which was originally built in 1883 and spans the Pennypack Creek between Lower Moreland and Bryn Athyn, will be closed until further notice. The inspection findings will be reviewed to determine if a short-term fix can be designed and implemented. This closure took effect immediately, and traffic will be diverted from the bridge via a signed detour.
A rehabilitation of the Fetters Mill Road Bridge has been in design for several years and is included in the county’s capital plan with federal, state, and county funding. Montgomery County and PennDOT are aggressively pursuing the necessary steps to move the work on this bridge from preliminary engineering and into final design. The bridge is currently scheduled to be rehabilitated beginning in 2020.
