Bike Patrol Unit

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Bike Patrol Unit was introduced in May 2015, with the main purpose of enhancing safety measures around the courthouse. The 10 member unit consists of three supervisors, and seven deputies will patrol outside of the courthouse, the SEPTA Transportation Center, the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit, the county bike trails and parks, and community events.

Bike Patrol Unit members have completed the International Police Mountain Bike Association Training, which requires a written exam and 32 hours of bike training that includes riding up and down steps, emergency stopping, a 40-mile bike ride, and riding through various obstacle courses. They have also completed Bicycle Response Team Training, which included exercises such as formations, single- and double-column riding, arrest/rescue techniques, squad withdrawal and gas mask drills complete with smoke and noise.
