Certification Challenge 2015

The Montgomery County Fire Academy tests for and provides successful candidates with the following certifications: Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Instructor I and Hazardous Materials Awareness.

Only one Certification Challenge test per day may be scheduled.

Current Certification Candidate Handbooks, Applications, and Skill Sheets are available on the Pennsylvania State Fire Commissioners/Pennsylvania State Fire Academy web site under certification: www.osfc.state.pa.us.

Candidates can also obtain the appropriate Candidate Handbook and Application from Herbert D. Adams, Coordinator of Professional Standards, Montgomery County Fire Academy at hadams@montcopa.org.

Candidates will need to submit a completed “Student Registration Form” for the written test date. A second “Student Registration Form” must be included for the skills testing date. Payment must accompany the “Student Registration Forms”.


Firefighter

Fire Fighter Level I – Written Test – Thursday, May 28, 2015 and November 12, 2015 at 19:00
Practical Test – Sunday June 7, 2015 and Sunday, November 15, 2015 at 08:00

Fire Fighter Level II - Written Test – Thursday, May 28, 2015 and November 12, 2015 at 19:00
Practical Test – Sunday June 7, 2015 and Sunday, November 15, 2015 at 08:00

This is the written and practical challenge test for The Pennsylvania Voluntary Certification Program accredited by the National Board of Fire Service Professional Qualifications (NPQS) and the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC).

The Fire Fighter I and II written test has 100 multiple choice questions based on the NFPA 1001 Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications 2013 Edition. The passing grade for the written test is 70 percent.

The practical hands-on skill testing for Fire Fighting I has 12 skill stations that must all be successfully passed. Fire Fighter II will have 5 skill stations that must all be passed. Candidates must successfully complete both the written and practical tests to be certified. Fire Fighter I is a prerequisite for making application to challenge Fire Fighter II.

Fire Service Instructor I

Hazardous Materials

Awareness - Written Test – Thursday, May 28, 2015 and November 12, 2015 at 19:00

This is the written challenge test for The Pennsylvania Voluntary Certification Program accredited by the National Board of Fire Service Professional Qualifications (NPQS) and the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC).

The Hazardous Materials Awareness written test is 50 multiple choice questions based on the NFPA 472 Standard for Professional Competence of Responders to Hazardous Materials Incidents, 2013 Edition. The passing grade for the written test is 70 percent. There are NO hands-on skills tested at the Awareness Level.
